The Dark Brotherhood would be the last of Arkham House’s original Lovecraft fiction and was in “posthumous collaboration,” whatever that is, with August Derleth. Derleth would, of course, continue to publish Selected Letters and reprint Lovecraft’s stories, but this ushered in the end of the publishing house’s initial mandate. In 1989 S. T. Joshi would arrive on scene with new editions of Lovecraft’s fiction and this is where this bookseller first encountered Lovecraft. This volume is attractive for both its lovely dust jacket by Frank Upatel and the specialized nature of it’s contents favorable to the Lovecraftian scholar. I have always found this to be one of the most attractive Arkham House editions next to The Shuttered Room.
