Some Notes on H. P. Lovecraft
Sauk City, Wisconsin: Arkham House, 1959. Gary Gore. First/1st. Chapbook. Near Fine. Item #398
Arkham House's small 42-page chapbook collection of several biographic notes on Lovecraft produced in a run of 1,044 copies. The Gary Gore green illustrated wraps were issued a quarter inch larger than the text block resulting in easily softened edges. In this volume, Derleth dispels several myths related to Lovecraft that had cropped up after his death. Notably, that he died of starvation, committed suicide, and was a "violent anti-Semite." Other notes discuss Lovecraft's unfinished manuscripts and his writing habits. The chapbook concludes with the a printing of notes Robert Barlow made about Lovecraft's visit to see him in 1934 and with four letter's that Derleth received from Lovecraft between 1926-1936. A near fine copy of a delicate Arkham House title with the usual bumped edges and corners. II-b-7.
