Orlando: Harcourt, Inc., 2005. First U.S. Edition, First Printing. Hardcover Octavo in tan textured papers. Very Good / Very Good. Item #25
An inscribed copy of Stach’s first U.S. volume on the life of Kafka. The 581 pages are translated from the German by Shelley Frisch. Signed and dated by the author on the title page. Obtained by me during a visit to Berlin in 2018. Dust jacket has some rubbing to the top edges. The head of the spine has some moderate bumping to the head and foot. The shadow in the picture causes the bump to appear more significant than it is. This is the true first US edition. Harcourt did not publish the other two volumes following the publication of this edition. The companion volumes were later published by Princeton. Overall a Very Good inscribed copy of the authoritative Kafka biography.
