New York: Astounding Stories, 1936. Howard Brown. First. Softcover. Fair. Item #7
Astounding Stories (June 1936). First appearance of Lovecraft’s The Shadow out of Time and his first and last pulp cover illustrated by Howard Brown. Written over the course of three months from November 1934-February 1935, Shadow would bring to a close Lovecraft’s fiction writing career. This copy of Astounding Stories’ June 1936 edition is in fair condition. There is a 1” loss to the bottom of the cover and a 3” closed tear just below a “MOSELEY CARDIFF MARKET” stamp. The “A” of astounding has some discoloration/fading which appears to be from a sticker having been removed. Binding is tight with a ½” loss to the spine. Interior pages are unmarked and aged as typical of pulps. A nice copy of this early pulp.
