Sauk City, Wisconsin: Arkham House, 1924. First Edition. Very Good / Very Good. Item #68
The Lurker at the Threshold, by H.P. Lovecraft and August Derleth. Arkham House, Sauk City, Wisconsin. 1945. pp. 196. $2.50. 3041 copies. Jacket by Ronald Clyne.
A very good signed copy of Derleth’s first “posthumous collaboration,” whatever that is, with Lovecraft. Derleth became literary executor of Lovecraft’s estate after the suicide of Robert Barlow. Two story fragments found amongst Lovecraft’s papers were whickered together and retitled at The Lurker at the Threshold. Coming in at a mere 196 pages, Derleth’s story expanded Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos. Regardless of how one views Derleth’s intentions with his “posthumous collaborations,” Lurker is essential to a Lovecraft, Derleth, or Arkham House collection. This copy comes from my private collection.
