Pocket booklet measuring 3.5 x 4.75 inches and with 104 numbered pages. In good condition with well worn covers showing the soiling accumulated from the devotional thumbing of the book. Printed on quality papers to tolerate the heavy use intended by the Catholic devotee. Published in 1926, this is the 255,000th printing of St. Alphonsus’ 1745 Visits. Twenty editions were made during his lifetime. The editor of this edition likens it to “casting fire upon the earth: it immediately enkindled divine love in the hearts of men.” The Catholic Truth Society of Ireland was organized at the meeting of the Maynooth-Union in 1899, with the stated purpose of diffusing “by means of cheap publications sound Catholic literature in popular form so as to give instruction and edification in a manner most likely to interest and attract the general reader,” and which would “create a taste for a pure and wholesome literature, and will also serve as an antidote against the poison of dangerous or immoral writings.” Staples are secure but corroded and the cover has a one-inch closed tear at the foot of the spine. Interior pages are clean.
