Sauk City, Wisconsin: Arkham House, 1963. Lee Brown Coye. First Edition, 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good / Very Good. Item #134
A very nice copy of the scarce first printing in an unclipped jacket. Jacket price of $5.00 on front flap and no headbands as called for with the first printing. Limited to 3133 copies (Jaffery 64), stated 3,000 on the volume’s limitation page. Pp. xx, 431. Contains reprintings of 16 popular Lovecraft stories and introduced by Derleth’s H. P. Lovecraft and His Work. Bound in the press’ standard Black Novelex with gilt stamped titles which retains their original luster. Corners of the binding are bumped and there is light shelf wear on edges. Text block edges yellowed with age as typical. Top edge showing early signs of foxing, bottom edge has four small impressions of unknown cause. Interior pages are clean and unmarked. Gray endpapers are clean. Dust jacket has light sunning on spine which has caused the red text to appear orange. Typical bumping and chipping to corners and edges; however, much less than is usual with the early printings. There is a rub adjacent to the “h” in “horror” on the front. This may be the remnant of an early pricing sticker. Jacket edges and the reverse side age toned. A very good collectable copy in a very good jacket.
